West St. Paul Advances Major Redevelopment Projects

West St. Paul is making strides in revitalizing key areas within the city, focusing on the redevelopment of the 150 Thompson Avenue site and the former Burger King location on Robert Street.

150 Thompson Avenue Redevelopment

The city has approved plans for the transformation of the former YMCA site at 150 Thompson Avenue East into a mixed-use development known as ‘Town Center Commons.’ This project encompasses 457 apartment units across two buildings, 19 townhomes, commercial spaces, and public gathering areas. The development is designed to integrate seamlessly with the River-to-River Greenway and future city park amenities. Construction is expected to commence this year, with the first phase including 272 market-rate apartments, 19 townhomes, and the initial buildout of park and trail amenities. The second phase will add an additional 185 apartments, completing a dynamic community hub for West St. Paul.

Former Burger King Site on Robert Street

Plans to replace the demolished Burger King at 1720 Robert Street with a Popeyes restaurant have encountered delays. The site remains undeveloped, with overgrown vegetation and water pooling after heavy rains, leading residents to humorously nickname it ‘Lake Burger King.’ City officials have not provided a timeline for the project’s progression, leaving the community awaiting further updates.

These redevelopment efforts reflect West St. Paul’s commitment to enhancing community spaces and fostering economic growth. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about these projects and participate in upcoming public meetings to share their perspectives.
