The West St. Paul City Council has approved the redevelopment of the 12-acre site at 150 Thompson Avenue East, formerly home to the YMCA. The project, led by Greco Properties, includes two apartment buildings with a total of 457 market-rate units, 19 townhomes across three buildings, and the revitalization of the vacant AutoZone building into a restaurant and other businesses.
A significant feature of the redevelopment is the creation of a new 2.5-acre city-owned park. Plans for the park include a water feature, urban beach, playground, picnic shelter, community building, bandshell, lawn space, trails, gardens, and public art installations.
The project has been in development for several years, with the city purchasing the property after Hy-Vee withdrew its plans. The approval marks a major step forward in transforming the area into a vibrant residential and recreational space for the community.
